WhatsApp just announced one of its biggest privacy features yet — usernames. And right now, before the feature even launches, you can go ahead and reserve the one you want.
The Problem With Phone Numbers
When you meet someone new — a neighbor, a classmate, someone at an event — sharing your phone number feels like more than just sharing a contact. Your number is tied to your bank OTP, your social accounts, your identity. Sometimes you just want to chat, not hand over all of that.

How WhatsApp Usernames Work
The core idea is simple: instead of sharing your phone number, you share a username. A few important things to know:
